Eng. Abu Bakr, is a veteran, entrepreneur and executive in the regional energy industry, played a key role in the development of the gas and power private sector in Egypt and the region. Over the past 30 years he was instrumental in managing and growing the sustainable role of the public and private sector in the Egyptian gas and energy sector. His participation and efforts supported the development and investments in the natural gas utilization in Egypt as well as several countries in the Middle East and Africa. Abu Bakr graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Cairo University and holds an MBA from Montreal University and several diplomas from Harvard and Texas universities.

Abu Bakr, has been the Co-founder and President of several private funded energy conglomerates with several local and regional gulf funds. Where he was leading several private sector energy distribution companies in Egypt, investing and operating energy infrastructure including gas transmission and distribution, power generation and distribution and marketing of petroleum products with investments up to 1.5 billion US $.

Abu Bakr is the Chairman of TAQA Arabia , the largest private gas distributor in Egypt accounting for 6 BCM annually , and he is the Chairman of the “Egyptian Gas Association”. He serves several International organizations being a Board member of the International Gas Union (IGU) for three terms (2009 -2018) and its Middle East & Africa Regional coordinator, Member of the International advisory board of Montreal University – HEC, President of “Italian Egyptian Business Council”, Chairman of Energy Committee, American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, Vice President of American Chamber of Commerce for two terms.
